  • Application window closes: 30 September 2026 (extended)

Don't wait till the last week to apply. PSU portals slow down badly near deadline day, and a half-filled form doesn't count.

CPCL Junior Engineer Assistant Vacancy Breakup

60 posts, split across four disciplines:

  • Production — 40 posts
  • Mechanical — 10 posts
  • Electrical — 5 posts
  • Instrumentation — 5 posts

Category-wise, it's 26 UR, 9 SC, 15 OBC, 5 EWS, with a few backlog seats added in. No ST vacancy this round.

Eligibility Criteria: Diploma Plus Experience

Here's the part candidates often miss. This isn't a fresher post. Every discipline needs a diploma and real work experience behind it.

  • Production: Diploma in Chemical/Petroleum/Petrochemical Engineering, or B.Sc. with Chemistry as major. 60% marks (55% SC). Minimum 3 years experience in continuous process units.
  • Mechanical: Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. 60% marks (55% SC). 3 years relevant experience.
  • Electrical: Diploma in Electrical/Electrical & Electronics Engineering. 60% marks (55% SC/PwBD). 3 years relevant experience.
  • Instrumentation: Diploma in Instrumentation, Instrumentation & Electronics, Instrumentation & Control, or Electronics & Communication. 60% marks (55% SC). 3 years relevant experience.

Qualification and experience are both checked as on 1 July 2026. Get this wrong, and the application gets rejected later — not upfront.

Age Limit for CPCL JEA 2026

Selection Process: Three Stages

  1. CBT — the written exam. This decides your merit position. Full stop.
  2. Document Verification — your certificates get checked against what you submitted.
  3. SPPT — Skill/Proficiency/Physical Test. Qualifying in nature. You need to clear it, but it won't boost your rank.

Exam Pattern: What the CBT Actually Tests

120 questions. 120 marks. 2 hours. 0.25 marks cut per wrong answer.

Part Subject Questions Marks
Part I General Aptitude 10 10
Part I Reasoning Ability 10 10
Part I General Knowledge 10 10
Part I Verbal Ability (English) 20 20
Part II Technical Discipline 70 70
Total   120 120

Look at that split again. Technical carries 70 out of 120 marks. Nearly 60% of the paper. That's where preparation time should actually go.

Syllabus Snapshot by Discipline

  • General Knowledge: current affairs, history, geography, Constitution, economy, science
  • English: grammar, vocabulary, comprehension, error detection
  • Quantitative Aptitude: number system, percentage, time and work, data interpretation
  • Production (Chemical): thermodynamics, process calculations, heat transfer, petroleum refining
  • Mechanical: strength of materials, thermodynamics, machine design, theory of machines
  • Electrical: electrical machines, power systems, network theory, control systems
  • Instrumentation: process control, sensors, PLC and SCADA, control systems

Study Material and Books for CPCL JEA Preparation

Here's the honest bit. Technical marks decide this exam, not the general section. And most candidates preparing for CPCL JEA are also juggling other PSU technical-assistant exams at the same time.

That's exactly the gap EA Publications tries to close. Their diploma-level engineering books cover Production, Mechanical, Electrical, and Instrumentation subjects topic by topic, with practice MCQs and previous-year-style questions built in.

Not generic content — material mapped to how PSU technical papers are actually structured. For candidates short on time before the CBT, a focused book often does more than scattered online notes ever will.

Salary and Pay Scale

Selected candidates start at ₹25,000 basic pay, under the ₹25,000–₹1,05,000 IDA-linked scale, Non-Supervisory Cadre Grade IV. Allowances sit on top, as per CPCL's own rules.

Why This Post Is Worth Applying For

CPCL is a Navratna PSU under Indian Oil Corporation Limited, running a 10.5 MMTPA refinery in Chennai.

A JEA-IV role here means PSU job security, an IDA pay structure, and a seat inside India's energy sector. For diploma engineers, that combination is hard to match elsewhere.
